The island of Elba can be reached by embarking at Piombino Marittima, where four shipping companies (Toremar, Moby Lines, Blu Navy and also Corsica Ferries from June) have comfortable ferries that perform multi-day journeys. With just one hour of navigation they cover the approximately 10 kilometers that separate the island from the continent, reaching the ports of Portoferraio (the main one), Cavo and Rio Marina.
Alternatively there is a fast connection by hydrofoil, for passenger transport only, which reaches Portoferraio in just 35 minutes.
